The Edit: Shooting the Pollies

In October 2019 the MPC hosted an Edit forum with award-winning photojournalist Alex Ellinghausen.

In a wide-ranging discussion, he spoke about his early passion for photography and his personal journey to his current role as a press photographer for Fairfax (now Nine). He took us through a day in the life of a Canberra press photographer and the hard slog of covering election campaigns. He also gave us the stories behind some of his most iconic shots.

As always, we thank The Edit's convenor, Age journalist Rachael Dexter.

In the discussion, he reflected on how social media has given him an audience beyond The Age, The Sydney Morning Herald and The Australian Financial Review, and an outlet for his more experimental takes on Canberra political life.
