30th Quills: Feature Writing

Michael Bachelard, Nick McKenzie, Ruby Schwartz and the Visual Stories Team of Good Weekend magazine has won the Feature Writing Quill with “Road to Ruin”.

Judges’ citation:

“Road to Ruin” is a challenging examination of a nationally high-profile case. Drawing on research gathered over several years, “Road to Ruin” is a well-written, deeply researched investigation into the safety of a conviction drawing on the views of highly-credentialled experts from Australia and around the world including scientists, doctors and lawyers. The piece skilfully examines the Australian justice system’s capacity to deal with the case’s complexities. Given the tragedy that occurred in 2005 it was naturally a difficult and also controversial story to embark on. The authors, working together effectively with a visual stories team, have produced a highly skilled feature presentation.
