Winner: Ryan Mason, 9News Melbourne, “Marathon Man”

Judges’ citation: 

Marathon man by Ryan Mason was a standout for the judges. He used multiple cameras in a 15 minute window at sunrise to beautifully capture a superhuman effort by Melbourne teacher Tom Price to run 50 marathons in 50 days to raise much needed funds for the Royal Woman’s Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Ryan shot the story on very little sleep after returning from flood coverage in Northern Victoria which is often a tough reality of the news cycle. The camerawork was powerful and a great representation of a man on a mission who was up and running before most people are even awake. Congratulations Ryan!
