31st Quills: Artwork/Graphics in any Medium

Brad Harvie, 9News, “Midnight Hammer”

Judges’ Citation:

This winning graphic sequence stood out among an exceptionally strong and diverse field of entries, emerging as the complete package: elevated, slick and confidently executed. It conveyed an appropriately serious tone that matched the subject matter, while remaining distinctly on-brand for Channel 9. The judges were impressed by how effectively it communicated a complex story within a short timeframe, balancing clarity with impact. Every element felt considered and purposeful, from the overall structure to the smallest visual details. In particular, the attention to detail, such as the subtle treatment of the lens and finishes, elevated the work and reinforced its credibility. The tone of the graphics respected the gravity of the topic without becoming heavy-handed, demonstrating strong editorial judgement. Overall, this was a polished, authoritative and technically accomplished sequence that set a high benchmark for broadcast storytelling.
