John Silvester of The Age won the 2014 Keith Dunstan Quill for Best Columnist/Blogger for his column ‘Naked City’.
Judges’ statement
The issues that John writes about are often fundamental to how we live now, going beyond his beat of crime. That said, his ability to extend traditional police writing to shine a light on the human vulnerabilities often kept secret in the world of the police is especially noteworthy. His stories are approached with a quirky sense of humour which, along with his emphasis on the human dimension, makes them intriguing and widely accessible. He manages often to invent new visual images in a genre of writing that can reach compulsively for the cliché.
