2017 Student Journalist of the Year announced

Carol Saffer of Monash University wins the Student Journalist prize for work published in The Age.

According to the judges, Saffer's work was a "comprehensive investigation of the struggle of an Australian office supply company in the face of a potential merger of two large, foreign-owned rivals. It showed good initiative and a sophisticated approach to reporting the issues involved, untangling a complex financial trail."

The Student Journalist of the Year wins return air fares to the United States, accommodation and registration for the Investigative Reporters' and Editors Conference, to be held this year in Florida.
