Today the Melbourne Press Club, with the support of the Herald Sun and the Western Bulldogs, launches the Sam Landsberger Sport Journalism Fellowship.
The Fellowship honours Sam Landsberger, a sports journalist at the Herald Sun, who died tragically, in August, 2024.
Sam was only 35, already a Quill award winner, and acknowledged across Victorian media as a newsbreaking reporter, whose infectious passion for journalism made him many friends across the industry.
In truth, his enthusiasm for journalism was only matched by his commitment to the Western Bulldogs, where his father Jake was the long-standing club doctor.
It makes sense for the Herald Sun and the Western Bulldogs to come together to support this Fellowship with a paid six-month placement for a keen young person from Melbourne’s western suburbs to immerse themselves in sports reporting.
This Fellowship is open to western suburb residents who are school leavers or university graduates. They will spend two months working three days a week with the Western Bulldogs digital team, and four months with the Herald Sun sports team. This is a unique opportunity for an individual who wants to turn their passion for sport into a journalism career.
The Melbourne Press Club is proud to have played a role in facilitating this opportunity in recognition of a fine journalist who still had so many stories left to tell.
