The MPC Student Journalist of the Year award recognises the best in Victorian student journalism.
Enrolled student journalists are encouraged to enter a piece of journalism in any media that has been made available to the general public in Victoria, during the 2025 calendar year.
Judges focus on the originality, impact, quality and initiative of the work in determining the shortlist and winner.
We encourage entries from Victorian student journalists who identify as being of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander heritage as well as student journalists who identify as being from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
Entries are free, and the winner of this award will receive $1,000 plus flights, accommodation, and a ticket to the 2026 IRE Conference in Washington, D.C.
