The Melbourne Press Club is pleased to announce Patrick Donovan as its new chief executive officer.
Patrick replaces Nick Richardson, who has resigned to pursue his own projects after three successful years leading the club.
Patrick worked as a journalist at The Age for 20 years. He is a respected voice in Melbourne’s media, and ran music peak body Music Victoria as its CEO for 10 years.
Patrick was also the founder and executive producer of The Age Music Victoria Awards – experience he will bring to the state’s premiere media night, the Quill Awards.
"I'm looking forward to working with Patrick as he brings his own experience and ideas to the club's important work," MPC president Michael Bachelard said.
"I also want to extend my sincere thanks and best wishes to Nick Richardson, who has been my friend and collaborator, and an excellent chief executive of our organisation."
Donovan said he was excited to be given the opportunity to lead the club through challenging times.
"The press club connects the media in this state: it provides support to existing and aspiring journalists, runs a substantial roster of events and advocates for media freedom. It's in a great position to support the crucial craft of journalism during a difficult period of major transformation," he said.
"Journalism is in my blood and I’m excited by the opportunities and tackling the challenges presented by this fast-changing landscape."
The Melbourne Press Club has been a key part of the city’s media community for more than 50 years.
It provides thought leadership, advocacy, supports workers through professional development, debates, awards and connections.
