The University of Melbourne will sponsor a new Quill for Excellence in Science, Medicine and Health Reporting. 

The new award was announced at the annual Quills dinner held on Friday 26 March 20201 by Dr Julie Wells, Vice-President Strategy and Culture at University of Melbourne. 

Dr Wells said: "If 2020 has shown us anything, it’s the value of science and medicine, And the importance of journalism that takes these disciplines seriously by seeking to understand them and by making these disciplines more accessible for general audiences."

The award will cover short- and long-form stories in any medium that engage deeply with science and which reveal, explain and contextualise matters ofscience, medicine and health.

The Melbourne Press Club has welcomed a three year partnership with the University of Melbourne as Principal Sponsor.
