Two new stories that reveal the depth and variety of women's sport are on track to be shared with a wider audience after the inaugural MPC/Deakin University Women's Sports Journalism Fellows were announced

The two Fellows are Malaika Ogbuehi, a competitive swimmer and sports science student, and Ashleigh Matosevic, currently working in local news in Melbourne's western suburbs.

The Fellowships are a pilot program designed to build on the interest, participation and investment in women's sport by creating opportunities for young women to identify stories about women in Victoria (and Australian) sport that can be published or broadcast in mainstream media.

As part of the program, each Fellow will be mentored by an experienced sports journalist who will help them develop their story idea to help it appear in mainstream media.

Deakin University and the Melbourne Press Club are providing financial support to enable each recipient to complete their proposed story.
