This is a pilot program designed to build on the interest, participation and investment in women’s sport by creating opportunities for young women and non-binary people to identify stories about women in Victorian (and Australian) sport that can be published or broadcast in mainstream media.
It seeks to identify talent from across the state, including from multicultural backgrounds, regional or rural locations, school leavers and those not yet working in journalism to help promote opportunities for aspiring writers and broadcasters who may not otherwise find a pathway into sports journalism.
The program pairs two Fellowship recipients with a mentor each to support and guide them through the process of transforming their idea into a story.
Deakin University and the Melbourne Press Club are providing financial support to enable each recipient to complete their proposed story/stories.
To be considered for this opportunity, you must not have been previously published or broadcast in a mainstream media outlet.
Applications close 5pm Friday 19 June 2026.
