Annika Smethurst and Paul Sakkal of The Age won the 2022 Scoop of the Year Quill for “Victorian Liberals' donor scandal”.

The judges were unanimous in recognising the devastating impact of this scoop on the then pending Victorian state election and the prospects of the state Liberals. The knock-on impact throughout the campaign doomed Matthew Guy and left his campaign team fragmented, their strategy in disarray. Rarely has a single story had so much influence on an election.
