In February 2018, the C.E.W. Bean Foundation held its annual commemorative dinner in partnership with the Melbourne Press Club. The event honours Australian war correspondents, photographers, artists and cinematographers.

Paul Kelly, editor-at-large of The Australian, gave the 2018 dinner address assessing the remarkable career of war correspondent, broadcaster and author Chester Wilmot.

The dinner was held at the historic Melbourne Savage Club.
