Update: Entries for the 26th annual Quill Awards for excellence in Victorian Journalism have now closed.

Two new categories feature this year. The Quill for Recognising Excellence in Indigenous Affairs Reporting acknowledges the best in Victorian coverage of Indigenous issues. The new award will encourage journalism that: i) highlights and amplifies Indigenous voices and stories; ii) facilitates and brings about societal debate and/or policy change; and iii) builds strength, visibility and pride in Victorian Aboriginal culture, history and achievement. More information can be found on our category criteria page.

The Father Bob Maguire Foundation Cobberwealth Award for Reporting on Social Inclusion is a special one year partnership with the Father Bob Maguire Foundation. The category celebrates work that focuses on the many complex factors that contribute to homelessness and/or social isolation and how society might address them. The winner will receive a return ticket to San Francisco to visit with The Glide Foundation.

The $7,500 Gold Quill will be awarded to the work judged best among category winners.

Entries are open to all journalists employed by Victorian media organisations or those who work primarily for Victorian media outlets. Melbourne Press Club members are entitled to one free entry. Non-members and members submitting additional entries pay an administration fee of $105 per entry.

Entries close on Friday 5 February 2021. Finalists in all categories will be named in March and winners will be announced at the annual Quills dinner in March/April 2021.
