Former Melbourne Press Club president Steve Harris was awarded an AM in the Australia Day honours for his significant service to print journalism.

Steve held the top two newspaper jobs in Melbourne during his career, as Editor-in-Chief of HWT and later, as publisher and Editor-in-Chief of The Age. He was also founding Editor of The Sunday Age. 

In 1996, as Club president he helped establish the Quill awards for excellence in Victorian journalism.

Steve is a Press Club life member.
