Gerard Ryle led the investigative team that revealed the Panama Papers - an unprecedented glimpse into the scope and methods of offshore finance. The Panama Papers exposé resulted in resignations and political scandals in Britain, Iceland, Spain, Malta and Pakistan and has triggered dozens of official inquiries around the world.
In partnership with the Walkley Foundation’s annual Storyology festival, the Press Club was pleased to host this special event with Gerard Ryle, who detailed the background to one of the biggest global scoops of recent years and answered questions from Nick McKenzie, one of Australia’s leading investigative journalists. Before becoming the first non-American director of the Washington DC-based International Consortium of Investigative Journalists in September 2011, Ryle spent more than 20 years working as an investigative reporter and editor at Fairfax Media, winning five Walkley Awards.
