The COVID-19 pandemic has given rise to an onslaught of misinformation and disinformation propagated by those with vested interests. Journalists must equip themselves to understand the world of encrypted apps, dark ads and algorithms, fake news articles, fringe groups, conspiracy theories and politically-backed actors in order to do their jobs properly.
